Sand Hair Color Is Here To Get You Ready For Summer
29 April 2019
Winter may be gone, but there are still a few weeks before summer makes its official appearance. As much as we love spring, the April showers have left us feeling a little gloomy and counting down the days until we can spend all of our free time at the beach! While there’s not much we can do about the weather, we can get you in a beachy mood with the latest ash blonde hair color taking over social media: sand hair.
After seeing the hue (dubbed by colorist Christine McMillen), we can't wait to get sand in our hair—literally. Continue reading for everything you need to know about sand hair color.
What is sand hair color?
Dark hair colors reign supreme in the winter months but as soon as spring hits, it’s time for everyone to ditch their dark strands in lieu of light shades. If you’re not ready to give up your dark strands completely, however, there may be a perfect compromise for you: sand hair. Sand hair color is a dark blonde shade made dimensional with pops of light blonde and sandy brown.
To create sand hair, your colorist will want to begin with a medium dirty blonde shade. If you have naturally dirty blonde hair, you’re in luck! If not, your colorist will either darken or lighten your natural hair color to create the perfect base. Once you have the perfect base color, your colorist will use the balayage technique to hand paint on shades of medium and light blonde to create a hue that rivals the most pristine sandy beaches.
How To Care For Sand Hair Color
Now that you can channel your inner beach babe at the flick of a hair flip, you need to make sure your hair care routine is equipped to maintain your new sandy hue. We recommend swapping out your regular shampoo and conditioner for a system formulated to care for color-treated hair like Kérastase Blond Absolu Bain Lumière and Cicaflash. The hydrating shampoo illuminates lightened and highlighted hair while the cool transparent gel detoxes hair and reinvigorates. The shampoo is formulated with hydrating agents for weightless purity and natural shine and the conditioning treatment features all of the repairing properties of a masque without the weight. Ultra-care and a protective shield are delivered in an opalescent lavender milky gel, making this a must-have for every blonde.
If you’ve undergone a complete hair transformation, plan to head to back to the salon every six to eight weeks for touch-ups. If your colorist just added a few strategically placed highlights, you can stretch your appointments a little further apart, closer to 12 weeks.
Because your colorist will have to use bleach to create your sand-inspired color, your strands are likely to suffer some damage. We recommend incorporating a deep conditioning mask like the Kérastase Blond Absolu Masque Ultra-Violet into your weekly hair care routine. This deep conditioner packs a double punch, nourishing your strands and neutralizing your color—behold the intense neutralization power in an ultra-intensive treatment mask! Containing purple pigments for anti-brass and anti-yellowing action, the rich ultra-violet cream penetrates hair fiber to restore radiance and shine.
Now that you know everything there is to know about sand hair, you can channel your inner beach babe whenever you want—rain or shine!
