Whether your hometown is in full-blown lockdown or enforcing social distancing protocols, chances are good some—if not all—of your plans were canceled this summer. While lavish trips to the Caribbean and Sunday brunch with your besties is off the table, one thing that definitely isn’t canceled this year is love. Many brides and grooms are grappling with altered wedding plans this summer, with some pushing their big day to next year in hopes that they’ll be able to have the wedding of their dreams and others. Others, however, are embracing the changing times and are opting to trade-in their 200 person wedding in favor of a much more intimate affair.
If you’re one of the latter, where you’re getting married and who will attend likely aren’t the only things on your mind. With many salons still closed or offering limited appointments in the wake of the new guidelines, you may be wondering how you’re going to pull off the wedding hair of your dreams. If you’re looking for a DIY wedding hairstyle that’s equal parts easy-to-pull-off and stunning, you’ve come to the right place. Ashley Lee, Mizani brand ambassador and owner of Beyond Fab Hair Studio in New York City, blessed us with a step-by-step tutorial for two absolutely breathtaking DIY wedding hairstyles for natural hair. Side Swept Curls
To begin, create a deep side part on the right or left side of your head. Separate your hair into 3-inch sections, and wet set your hair to define your natural curls using Mizani Foam Wrap. Simply rake the product through your curls until the section is completely saturated with the product. If you desire even more definition and hold, layer another curl defining product like Mizani Perfect Coil Oil Gel on top. Continue applying product section by section until you’ve saturated your entire mane. Then, use your blow dryer to rough dry your hair until your strands are completely dry. As you are blowdrying, use your hands to smooth the hair around your part and hairline to help create a more polished look.
Once your hair is dry, use the comb attachment and the lowest heat setting on your blowdryer to stretch your curls and add volume to the roots of your mane for jaw-dropping volume. Once you have the volume you desire, take the Mizani Lived-in Sculpting Paste or Mizani Edge Taming Gel and apply it to your edges. Use a small brush to style your edges into place. Then, using a comb to smooth your hair into place, sweep the smaller section of hair over your part, and secure it with several bobby pins. If you have particularly thick hair, roll the hair into place before securing with a bobby pin. Continuing pinning your hair until the side-swept portion of your hair feels secure. Once your hairstyle is secure, it’s time to accessorize! Take your bridal hair accessory of choice and attach it to your hair. Once your accessory is in place, finish your look with a couple of spritzes of Mizani Lived-In Finishing Spray for added movement and volume.

To begin, take a 1 to 2-inch section of hair beginning at your hairline, twist the segment towards the back of your head, then secure the twist to the back of your head with a bobby pin. Take another 1 to 2-inch section of hair and follow the same steps, this time crossing your twist over the first twist you created. This will help to create a braided effect without actually braiding your hair. Continue twisting and overlapping sections of hair until all of the hair beginning at your hairline is pulled back. Once your twists are secure, fluff the remaining loose hair for added volume. Now it’s time to accessorize! Place bejeweled pins, flowers, or a veil on your mane to complete your look. For a finishing touch, spritz some Mizani HD Shyne Spray all over your hair.
