She held off as long as she could, but after almost three months in quarantine, Emily Ratajkowski decided she was due for a hair transformation and traded in her signature brunette strands for a blonde hue that’s equal parts ice and golden honey, with just a hint of smoked out roots. This isn’t any old transformation, however. Despite spending years in Hollywood on sets of movies and music videos, this is actually the first time Ratajkowski’s ever colored her hair before! The model turned actress and business owner, tapped a Kérastase master colorist to help bring her new hue to life, and it’s safe to say, we’re obsessed. While some people are hesitant to stray too far from their natural color, Ratajkowski using her new hue to help her usher in a new phase of her life—post quarantine.

“I’ve never colored my hair or changed the length significantly in my entire life! I’m absolutely thrilled that Kérastase gave me their blessing to become a blonde,” she said in a press release. “I just celebrated my birthday and am so happy to be coming out of quarantine with a fresh new look. Beauty is meant to be fun and expressive, and this is definitely, hands down, the most fun I’ve ever had with my look before.”

How Emily Ratajkowski Cares For Her Platinum Blonde Hair

It may have taken a nation-wide quarantine and a birthday for Ratajkowski to finally take the plunge and dabble in the world of blonde hair, but she’s been thinking about going blonde for years. While she always wondered what she’d look like with golden strands, she was concerned about the toll that damaging bleach would take on her strands. Lucky for her, her partnership with Kérastase over the last three years has taught her you don’t have to sacrifice the health of your hair to slay a color you love—as long as you have the right products.

Ratajkowski relies on the Kérastase Blonde Absolu line to keep her golden strands in tip-top shape. If you recently went blonde or are thinking about switching up your hue for something a bit lighter, we recommend swapping out your regular shampoo and conditioner for the Kérastase Blonde Absolu Bain Lumière Shampoo and Cicaflash Conditioner. A few times a week, swap out the Bain Lumière Shampoo for Bain Ultra-Violet Purple Shampoo to keep unwanted brass and yellow tones at bay.

On days where your mane needs a little extra TLC, count on the Masque Ultra-Violet Purple Hair Mask and always use a heat protectant like Cicaplasme Hair Primer when heat styling your hair.

Equipped with Ratajkowski’s go-to products, you’ll have red carpet ready blonde hair every day of the week.
