The Pro's Guide To Finding The Perfect Cut For A Heart-Shaped Face

There are many things to consider when deciding on your next haircut. Should you go short or long? Layers or a blunt cut? Symmetrical or asymmetrical? Ultimately, you just want a cut that’s going to look fantastic on you. When trying to determine whether or not the cut you’ve pictured in your head is going to look as complimentary on you in real life, one of the first things you should consider is the shape of your face.

Finding the perfect haircut for your face shape can be tricky, but you don’t have to do it alone. Jeaneane Moreno, Matrix brand ambassador and stylist, breaks down everything you need to know about flattering haircuts for a heart-shaped face.

How do I know if I have a heart-shaped face?

Trying to determine your face shape can seem daunting, but it’s really quite simple if you know what to look for. If you are unsure whether or not you have a heart-shaped face, this is how you know for sure:

"Heart-shaped faces are wider through the forehead and temporal area and narrow at the chin," Moreno says.

When working with clients who have heart-shaped faces, Moreno likes to create cuts that highlight her client's eyes. While the term “flattering” is relative, the stylist says clients typically ask to draw attention from their cheeks as they’re often the widest part of a heart-shaped face.

Not sure which cut is perfect for you? Let these five flawless haircuts inspire you!

Mid Length Layers

Long locks are flattering on almost every face shape, but not all princess-like locks are created equal. Long hair typically gives your face a slimmer appearance, but if your down-to-there hair lays flat against your face, it brings attention to its shape.

Fortunately, Moreno has an easy fix: layers! They will add body and movement to your ‘do without getting rid of any significant length.

Mid length layers that fall below the chin will elongate the face while still allowing a lot of fun, flirty movement,” the stylist says

A-Line Bob

If you’re ready to get rid of a little length, consider an A-line bob. Ask your stylist to allow the hair framing your face to hit just at your jawline and go as short as you’d like in the back.

“An A-line bob that’s stacked in the back and stops at the jawline is great because it creates volume and lengthens the face,” Moreno says.

If you’re looking for a cut that is both flattering and on-trend, look no further than the lob. The lob has become increasingly popular over the last few years and for a good reason—it looks good on everyone!

Pixie With Side Swept Bangs

Keeping your hair long isn’t the only way to have a flattering haircut. You can have an equally flattering haircut with no more than two inches of hair! If short hair is your preference, ask your stylist for a pixie with side swept bangs that fall just at your jawline.

“Having a side part elongates the face while the bangs sweep across the cheek, reducing the width,” Moreno explains.

If you’re looking for a cut that is both edgy and flattering, an asymmetrical cut is perfect for you.

“Asymmetrical haircuts are great for a round face because it offsets the roundness by creating different angles due to the bi-level cut,” Moreno explains.

Whichever haircut you settle on, your stylist will ensure it is the perfect cut for your heart-shaped face.
