Halsey's New Hair Color Is Giving Us Major Valentine's Day Vibes

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away, but one of our favorite singers got into the lovey-dovey spirit early this year. Having just come out of a high-profile relationship with a well-known rapper, Halsey may be planning to spend Valentine’s Day a little differently this year. However, the singer is proving single girls can have just as much—if not more—fun on the day of love with her on-trend androgynous haircut and red hair color.

The singer trusted Ryan Pearl, Redken brand ambassador and celebrity stylist, to create the androgynous Valentine’s Day ‘do of her dreams. Halsey chopped off her blonde in favor of a bright red mushroom haircut. While Halsey is no stranger to short hair, this is the first time we’ve seen her slay this particular shade of crimson.

We caught up with Pearl, who told us everything about Halsey’s iconic color—including how to recreate the look with a little help from a professional stylist.

Halsey was looking for a punk rock yet polished vibe...We decided to go for this vivid red to give her a little more edge.

We always recommend allowing a professional to create your custom hair color, especially for a shade this bright and vibrant. If you want to copy Halsey’s exact shade, you’re in luck! Pearl let us in on the exact formula he used so that you can share it with your colorist.

How To Recreate Halsey’s Red Hair Color:

Using an allover application, Ryan first pre-lightened Halsey’s hair to a pale yellow using Redken Flash Lift Bonder Inside and 30 volume Pro-oxide Cream Developer. After shampooing with Redken Color Extend Magnetics and drying her hair, he then used a custom-blended formula featuring equal parts Redken City Beats Big Apple Red and Midtown Magenta to create the vibrant red tone.

Once you’ve got the perfect color, you’ll need the perfect style to go along with it. If you want to copy Halsey’s look exactly, ask your stylist for a mushroom haircut—a rounded hairstyle that resembles a mushroom cap. Traditional mushroom haircuts are the same length all the way around, but modern iterations focus on the rounded fringe and allow for more styling options in the back.

To give your mushroom hairstyle a bit of extra edge, you’re going to need texture—and lots of it. To create Halsey’s piece-y mushroom hairstyle, Ryan sprayed a few spritzes of Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texture Finishing Spray throughout her hair for an effortless, polished rocker finish.

Whether you’re bad at love or a hopeless romantic, you’ll love the way this Valentine’s Day-inspired style looks.
