The biggest festival of 2019 has officially come and gone and like every year prior, the star-studded, two weekend extravaganza served up some major hair inspiration that we’ll be talking about for weeks to come. While we adore seeing our favorite celebrities and influencers sporting bedazzled braids and bohemian hairstyles, one of our favorite looks of the year belonged to Kristen Ritchie. The LA-based blogger and stylist traded her ash blonde locks for a pastel pink hue created by none other than Redken artist Spencer Henry.
Obsessed with Ritchie’s pastel pink hair? You’re in luck! We got the scoop on exactly how Henry created the whimsical, festival-worthy hue. If you’re looking to replicate this exact hair color, be sure to share this formula with your professional colorist!
How To Recreate Ritchie’s Pastel Pink HairHenry began the transformation by cleansing Ritchie’s strands with the Redken Clean Maniac Shampoo and Conditioner. The sulfate-free daily shampoo powered by micellar technology gently removes product build up, dirt, and impurities from the hair. The lightweight, silicone-free conditioner leaves hair feeling bouncy and healthy.
Then, using the balayage technique, Henry pre-lightened Ritchie’s hair with the Redken Flash Lift Bonder Inside and 20 volume Pro-oxide Cream Developer. After shampooing again to rinse the bleach out of the hair and conditioning with the Redken Color Extend Blondage Shampoo and Conditioner, he applied a custom shade using a mixture of 000 Crystal Clear and 09P Opal Glow in Redken Shades EQ Gloss, rinsed, and blowdried the hair. Henry completed the transformation by using a few drops of the Redken City Beats Ballet Pink and Midtown Magenta shades to create the pink hue.
Once your colorist has achieved your pink hue, you still need the perfect hairstyle to complete your look. To get Ritchie’s mane officially Coachella-ready, Henry used a dime-size amount of Redken Full-Frame 07 All-Over Volumizing Mousse. Then, he applied Redken Iron Shape 11 Thermal Holding Spray and created loose curls throughout her entire head. To finish the look, he applied a few spritzes of Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texture Finishing Spray to create airy texture and an effortless finish.
How To Care For Pastel Pink Hair
Thinking pink for 2019? Be warned: Like all pastel hues, pink is a high-maintenance color. If you’re committing to pastel pink hair, you’ll need to visit your colorist every few weeks and stock up on color-protecting products to keep your hue looking fresh.
We recommend beginning your hair care routine with a shampoo and conditioner formulated for color-treated hair like the Redken Color Extend system. The system protects against color fading and makes hair color last longer.
Because your colorist will need to use bleach to achieve pastel pink, your strands might experience a bit of damage. We recommend incorporating a weekly hair mask like the Redken Color Extend Magnetics Mega Hair Mask into your routine. This two-in-one hair mask is both a treatment and care extender designed specifically for the color care of your color-treated hair.
