Wondering how you can recreate Antoni Porowski's enviable hairstyle? We're breaking down the look step by step.
Stassi Schroeder’s addictive book, “Next Level Basic" has us wondering: Is basic hair a bad thing? We investigate.
Shopping for men’s hair products can be daunting. It’s easy to get lost in the endless aisles of dark packaging plastered with “manly” claims. You’ve got your basic “manly” shampoo, conditioner, and maybe a gel, but often times that’s all men have to work with.
Redken knew men were in search of quality products that not only made their hair look good but also feel good to the touch. Fourteen years after launching their first hair care line for men, Redken’s changing the game with 15 new products inspired by everyone’s favorite drink—beer!
The Redken Brews line includes three shampoos and one conditioner. For men who like to keep their routine simple, there’s a three-in-one shampoo, conditioner, and body wash combo. The range also includes 10 styling products ranging from pomade to hair spray—yes, hair spray just for men! Wondering whether or not Redken Brews are the right product for your hair? We sat down with Rodney Cutler, celebrity stylist and Redken brand ambassador, to get the scoop.
“[Men are] ready to express themselves,” Cutler says of the line’s inspiration. “The ‘guy’s guy’ is going to express himself and he’s curious about products.”
According to Cutler, the best way to get the most out of these products is to pair them in a technique he calls “cocktailing.”
“I love Redken Brews Work Hard Molding Paste and I mix it with grooming cream Redken Brews Get Groomed Finishing Cream and I will cocktail it,” Cutler explains. “In winter, I’ll use a little bit more grooming cream because I want a bit more moisture. In summer, with so much humidity, I need less.”
What really sets Redken Brews apart from other men’s hair care line is that the products don’t just make your hair look good—they’re also good for your hair.
“In the past, gel would just hold hair in place. They should be moisturizing for your hair and not drying,” Cutler says.
If you have coarse, textured hair and worry this range isn’t for you—think again. Cutler says the line is for men with all hair types and textures, you just have to know how to use the products.
Our job as the professional is to educate the consumer because one product is not for all hair types. You’ve got to identify your hair type, your haircut, and the desired finish...Are you going for groomed? Do you want something a little less polished or textured? The product is there to accentuate a desired look on a specific hair type.
For men with coarse hair, Cutler recommends the Redken Brews Get Groomed Finishing Cream which uses mild control to create styles with a clean, natural looking finish. If your style needs a little more hold, Cutler suggests cocktailing the cream with Redken Brews Clay Pomade. The formula provides maximum control with a gritty finish. If you have fine hair, by contrast, the Redken Brews Maneuver Cream Pomade might be the perfect product for you.
There is one product Cutler thinks men of all hair types will love, the Redken for Men family is the Redken Brews Hairspray. The formula keeps your style in place with maximum control in a compact, supercharged bottle.
“Guys actually quite like hair spray and they want their own, so that’s really cool and they don’t have to borrow from their partners,” Cutler says.
You can thank Redken Brews for not only making your hair look amazing, but also for putting an end to your daily argument over who touched which hair products in the bathroom. The entire Redken Brews range hit stores and Redken salons nationwide in January 2018.
