Oribe Canales, the world-renowned celebrity stylist and creator of the eponymous award-winning hair care line, has died, a company spokesperson confirmed to Women’s Wear Daily. He was just 62 years old. It is not immediately clear what caused the untimely death of the legendary hairstylist.
A native of Cuba, Canales rose to fame in the ‘80s and ‘90s through a series of high profile partnerships that made him a big name in the beauty and fashion industry. By the late ‘90s, Canales was making headlines styling hair for the biggest names in Hollywood. Canales left his mark everywhere from runways and red carpets to music videos and TV shows.
In 2008, after nearly 30 years in the business, Canales decided to pour his love and knowledge of haircare and styling into a curated product line aptly named Oribe. From shampoo and conditioner to hairspray and serum, Canales insisted on using only the best for his award-winning range. His products are beloved by his celebrity clients, hair care professionals, and beauty junkies alike.
Despite his meteoric rise to fame and indisputable mark on the industry, Canales never forgot why he first fell in love with hair.
“I’ve had so many amazing moments as a hairdresser,” he told Now It Counts. “Not to sound like Miss America, but making someone feel good about themselves is always fantastic.”
