Read on for expert tips on how to get shiny hair the right way.
If you’re thinking about making a major hair transformation in 2019 but aren’t sure which new look is just right for you, you’ve come to the right place.
We are all well aware of the fact that heat can contribute to the weakening of our strands, making them more prone to dryness and breakage if styling is not executed with care and precautionary measures.
While reaching for the flat iron often seems like the ticket out of frizzville (and it can be when done correctly—hello salon visit!), hot tools are not your only route to smooth, beautiful hair. We met with Thierry Deschemin, French L’Oréal Professionnel and Shu Uemura Art of Hair brand ambassador, to discuss his favorite ways to suspend the flat iron reflex.
The right hair care regimen can get you on track to silky smooth tresses, as well as representing a fundamental building block for healthy hair. How? For clients with untamed hair, experts prioritize using conditioners and masks that with a specific goal in mind. Deschemin loves the Shu Uemura Art of Hair Shusu Sleek range.
If you don’t want to compromise on professional result in your journey to straight hair, a steam straightener could very well be your perfect solution. Unlike a classic flat iron, the steam works to refine the shape of the hair. The result? Beautifully soft, healthy hair with a gorgeous, sleekness to die for!
We associate hair rollers with beautiful, soft curls—but did you know that rollers can actually help to straighten out your tresses, too? The secret lies in opting for rollers that are large in size, limiting the creation of ringlets and encouraging the hairs all to lie in the same direction—allowing you to bid farewell to your untamable mane!
To be sure you’re reaching for the right rollers, be sure to ask your stylist’s advice on the best roller method adapted to your needs.
Sometimes, a flat iron is just the most reliable and effective solution—and that’s OK!
“Heat remains necessary to properly rework the hair and truly to change its shape,” Deschemin notes, advising the use of a lower temperature when possible. “You can still obtain an effective result by turning down the heat dial.”
His advice for the blowout-obsessed?
“Just after a blow dry, allow the hair to cool down by giving your tresses a once-over with the cool setting on your blow dryer,” Deschemin says.
Be sure to also utilize your protective product arsenal. Spritz generously onto damp hair for safeguarded hair with a chic, textured finish!
