Made with charcoal and a coconut-derived clarifier, Mizani Moisture Fusion Gentle Clarifying Shampoo will give hair a thorough cleanse, but won’t strip the strands of moisture or shine. When you’re done, your curls and scalp will feel revitalized, and hydrating treatments that come after are even more efficient. Ideal for all texture and curl types.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cleanses well, STRONG chemical fragrance My initial impression was surprise at the dark gray pearlescent color. Upon first sniff, I detected a mild, pleasant tropical smell, but it quickly turned into a strong, cloying, chemical, perfumey smell. I was pleased to find that a little goes a long way: I thought I would need several squeezes for it to lather properly, like I do with most shampoos. However, after applying the first generous palm full all over my head, I didn't need anymore: the lather was thick and rich/didn't dissolve into nothingness, and was easy to distribute. The 16.9 oz bottle will last a long time. There wasn't really much slip to it, but it didn't strip my hair either so I was able to gently detangle my natural, densely coiled, thick, mid back length hair with only this product. I left in in my hair while I showered. When I rinsed it out, it rinsed out quickly, but the cloying chemical perfume smell remained, no matter how much I rinsed. While my hair did not feel stripped or dry, my hair and scalp did feel clean (though not moisturized). I also noticed a nice sheen/shine to my hair. I allowed my hair to air dry without applying any products (I pre-pooed but skipped a post clarifying deep conditioner to see how the clarifier did on its own), and although it didn't feel soft, my hair still did not feel dry or crispy either and it retained a lot of shine. Unfortunately, that annoying, cloying chemical smell persisted the next day, even after I applied my leave in conditioner and gel to style my hair. The smell was very noticeable to others and persisted until my next wash day. So, despite the positives like being highly concentrated, cleansing gently but well, being non-drying and non-irritating, leaving no residue, and leaving a nice sheen, the overbearing and invasive chemical perfume odor is a deal breaker for me that will prevent me from using the rest of the bottle, buying it again or recommending it to anyone else. The issue is one much larger scent preference: research shows that African American women's hair products contain MANY more toxic ingredients and it is SERIOUSLY harming our health (the fragrance chemicals is just one of a long list of toxic chemical listed in the ingredients of this clarifying shampoo). If I can wash, condition and style my hair effectively with products from my kitchen, manufacturers don't need to market all of these toxic products to us and make us ill. This complaint is not new, we've been complaining for decades, yet they still do it. I don't get it. I want more convenient and effective hair care products but I don't want to poison myself or pay for my own poison. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
