When it comes to haircare products that are “good” or, better yet, “safe” for my hair, I’m always conscious of the ingredients. Biolage Color Last does not, so it passed my initial test upon browsing its ingredient label. It’s also vegan, which for me is always a plus.
What it does contain are hydrating ingredients that help maintain the color and integrity of hair that has been processed. It contains a low pH, which helps promote and prolong color vibrancy. I also find that it’s quite reasonable price-wise, especially for the caliber and quality. A full 13.5-ounce bottle costs only $21, which is great for a salon-quality product that can last you a solid three months when used sparingly. You don’t have to be someone who color-treats their hair on the regular in order to use or benefit from this haircare line. Even if you don't add color to your hair, its low pH and hydrating ingredients will help nourish your strands and add vibrancy back into lackluster hair. The formula also strengthens locks and protects them from environmental damage.

Upon first trying out the line, I was first impressed with the smell of fresh orchids. It wasn’t overwhelming at all, like some shampoo and conditioning lines, but it was pleasantly refreshing. This well-balanced scent was much appreciated by my 8-month pregnant nose, which has become increasingly sensitive to all sorts of smells—good and bad.
When applying the shampoo, I loved how well it suds up. My hair felt cleaner from the moment I slathered it into my scalp, and it washed out easily without leaving my hair feeling matted and ultra-dry.
Next up was the conditioner, which I was pleasantly surprised by. It left my hair instantly smooth—even smoother than some deep-hydrating masks I’ve used. It washed out well and left my hair tangle free, which was also impressive. For once in the 15+ years that I’ve colored my hair I didn’t even feel the need to use a deep conditioning mask. My hair felt just as hydrated and ready for my after-shower care. After every shower, I was able to brush my hair seamlessly, and it was almost tangle-free. Styling was simple, and I noticed an enhanced shine in my usually lackluster locks. The color was without a doubt the most impressive result. It instantly improved the look of the standard brassy tone that usually shows up in my hair around six to eight weeks after getting it colored. I actually felt like it extended the life of my color enough to push back my next appointment, which came in handy since I’m expecting my second child within the next two months!
All in all, I will definitely be using this haircare line throughout my pregnancy and beyond. I can honestly say now that Biolage Color Last is the best shampoo and conditioner for in-between coloring sessions with my colorist to help maintain the hue and integrity of my over-processed locks.
