Cream Soda Hair Is The Hottest Color Trend For Summer

This has been the year of beverage-inspired hair colors and we can’t get enough. From pumpkin spiced latte and mulled wine to pink lemonade and iced caramel latte, we haven’t met a drink we weren’t inspired by. As much as we loved those delectable colors, the newest beverage inspired hair color may just be our favorite yet. Cream soda hair is the official color for summer and as soon as you see it, you’re going to want to make an appointment at your favorite hair salon.

What is cream soda hair?

Cream soda hair is inspired by everyone’s favorite childhood soda pop. The color deliciously combines soft shades of creamy brown, foamy blonde, and subtle streaks of gold. The final result is hair that looks like it’s been poured into a soda glass right at the diner counter.

If you’re a natural brunette, your stylist will use a balayage technique to hand paint lightener on to the surface of your hair and create a multi-dimensional look.

If you’re not a natural brunette, your colorist will begin by coloring your hair a creamy brown base before hand painting hair lightener on the surface of your hair. It’s important to note that bleach will always damage hair, but a salon professional can help you restore the look of beautiful strands.

How do you care for cream soda hair?

Any time you head to the salon for a new color you should expect to change up your hair care routine—and cream soda hair is no different. The first change you’ll need to make is to swap out your regular shampoo and conditioner for a system that will protect your color. We suggest Redken Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner.

Because your colorist will need to use bleach to achieve your final look, you’ll want to add a deep conditioning treatment to your weekly routine to help your strands look and feel as healthy as possible. We recommend Redken’s Color Extend Rich Recovery Mask.

If you are a natural blonde or brunette, you should be able to stretch the time between touch-up appointment several weeks or even months. Because the color is applied with a balayage technique, you have the added benefit of your grown-out roots blending seamlessly into your color. While you may be able to stretch the time between root touch-ups, we suggest maintaining your regular hair cut schedule. Maintaining your haircut schedule is one of the best ways to ensure your hair remains looking it’s absolute best.

If your natural hair color is now where near cream soda, expect to head back to the salon every six to eight weeks for a root touch up.

What is the best way to wear cream soda hair?

Cream soda hair will look absolutely stunning on every style from a pixie to long beach waves, but we think it looks particularly stunning on lobs. The classic lob is just long enough to properly showcase your stunning color, but still short enough to keep you cool all summer long.

Whatever you decide, we want to see your sugary summer color. Use the hashtag #hairdotcom to tag us in your posts.
