For years, the lob absolutely dominated the beauty world. Everyone from your favorite celebrities to your best friend slayed the look. However, it looks like the lob’s long reign may be coming to an end. An uber short bob is ready to take its place on the throne.

As more women no longer feel the need to hold on to long locks to feel feminine and androgynous cuts begin to become more popular, many Hollywood trendsetters have debuted super short haircuts. Looking for a cut that’s on-trend and effortless to style? Meet the hairline bob.

What is a hairline bob?

A hairline bob is a cut that masterfully blends two styles in one. From the front, your hair will appear to be a blunt, chin-length bob that’s just long enough to tuck behind your ears. From the back, however, your hair will be shorn short enough to mimic the look of a pixie. The finished result is a leaves you with just enough hair to style, but keeps your hair short enough that your hair can be ready to go in just a few minutes.

The cut is perfect for anyone looking to upgrade their lob or looking for a lightweight cut superb for the hot summer months.

How do you care for a hairline bob?

It’s easy to think that when you cut your hair very short, your locks will be much easier to deal with. In reality, short haircuts are anything but effortless. While you may spend less time styling your hair in the morning, you’ll most likely end up spending more time in the hair salon.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, your hair grows on average a half an inch per month. If you want to keep your hairline bob looking as fresh as the day you got your cut, you’ll have to head back to the salon every four to eight weeks.

You’ll also have to switch up your styling routine. While cutting your hair won’t change your hair type or texture, you may find your cropped hair gets oilier faster than long locks because the natural oils from your scalp have a much shorter distance to travel. If you absolutely love your shampoo, there’s no need to swap it out for a different one. However, you may notice you have to wash more often.

If your strands are significantly oilier than you’re used to, invest in a quality dry shampoo. On days when you don’t have time (or just can’t be bothered) to wash and dry your hair, dry shampoo will be your new best friend. To refresh your locks between washes, apply the dry shampoo near your roots and then comb the product through your locks until the residue completely fades.

The only thing standing between you and the hottest haircut of the summer is a trip to the hair salon.
