How Matrix A Curl Can Dream Changed My Postpartum Curls

In search of new products for your curly hair? Read on to find out why this senior editor can’t get enough of the Matrix A Curl Can Dream range.

When I finally went natural a few years ago, I became a bonafide product junkie. There isn’t a curly hair shampoo, conditioner, co-wash, leave-in, or styler I haven’t tried. Coupled with my job as a beauty editor, you can already imagine my curly hair care arsenal is a bit out of control. Because of this, it’s a little difficult to stay loyal to just one product, let alone an entire range of products.

More often than not, I end up loving a shampoo from one brand, a conditioner from another, and a styler from yet another and curate my own routine. This is to say that when I was gifted the Matrix A Curl Can Dream range, I wasn’t expecting to be blown away. But here I am, a few weeks into using the products, and I’m willing to admit my initial hesitation was totally off the mark. I cannot get enough of these curly hair products—they’re so good, my husband even uses them.

Whether you have loose 3B spirals like me or tightly coiled 4C curls like my husband, the Matrix A Curl Can Dream range is bound to be a game-changer for your hair care routine. Read on for a complete Matrix A Curl Can Dream review. I break down everything you need to know about Matrix’s revamped curly hair care line and how I use it in my hair care routine.

What Is Matrix A Curl Can Dream?

Matrix A Curl Can Dream is a hair care range that consists of shampoo, co-wash, hair mask, moisturizing cream, light-hold gel, and hair oil. The range is formulated with Manuka honey extract, a natural humectant that helps to draw moisture into the hair. How I Use Matrix A Curl Can Dream In My Routine

Despite some major lifestyle changes, including a pandemic-induced quarantine, a work-from-home schedule, and a new baby, I’m proud to say one thing I haven’t slacked on is my hair care routine. While I haven’t worn a full face of makeup in over a year, I still do my wash-and-go routine one to two times a week—because if nothing else good is happening, at least I can have healthy curls. While my routine has been consistent, one thing that hasn’t been consistent is my curl definition. My hair went through some major changes after I gave birth, and the products my curls used to love just weren’t cutting it anymore. That’s where A Curl Can Dream comes in.

My postpartum curls were in desperate need of moisture, and the Manuka honey in A Curl Can Dream delivers just that. Depending on how much time I have, I begin my routine with either the shampoo and hair mask combo or the co-wash on its own. Both leave my curls touchably soft and super easy to detangle, but if my curls are in need of a little extra TLC, I try to make time for the hair mask.

After my hair is washed and conditioned, I slather my soaking wet hair with the moisturizing cream while I’m still in the shower. I find that applying the cream to soaking wet hair really helps to trap the moisture into my curls. After getting out of the shower, I apply the light-hold gel throughout my curls and scrunch my hair to coax some extra definition out of my ringlets. Then it’s time to dry. While using A Curl Can Dream guarantees my hair will look good whether I air dry or diffuse, I find I achieve more much-needed volume when I diffuse my curls. Once my curls are completely dry, I pump a little bit of hair oil into my palms, rub my hands together to warm it up, and gently rake it through my hair for a nice and shiny finish.

My favorite part about Matrix A Curl Can Dream is that my favorite products work just as well on their own as they do together in the set. Sometimes I just apply the moisturizing cream to my hair for a look that’s a little less defined but just as fluffy and soft. If my curls begin to look dull on day three, all it needs is a few pumps of hair oil.

I mentioned earlier that my husband loves the products just as much as I do. About a week after they first arrived at our house, he turned to me before bed and told me that he really loved the new hair products I put in the bathroom. And to his credit, his hair looked better than it has in months. While my ringlets are loose and fine, he has extremely tightly coiled, intensely dense locks. He often has a hard time finding products that help his curls look and feel soft and defined, but A Curl Can Dream can do both. Finding products that work for both of our very different hair types is rare, so not only has A Curl Can Dream given me excellent hair, it’s also saved me tons of bathroom storage space—and I’m not sure which one I’m more thankful for.

If you’re looking to revamp your curly hair care routine or just add a few new products to your arsenal, Matrix A Curl Can Dream products surely won’t disappoint.
