I’m on a growth journey—and while that encompasses a lot of things for me right now, longer, softer hair is one of them. As my locks get longer, they’re noticeably dryer. From my mid-shaft to my ends I can tell a shift in the texture of my hair for the worse. While I want to continue to see my lengths go the distance, I don’t want to compromise the integrity of my mane.
When I learned that Matrix was launching Food For Soft—a collection packed with avocado oil and hyaluronic acid to hydrate chronically dry hair—I knew I had to try it for myself. The 4-piece system attracts water like a sponge to replenish dry hair and prevent moisture loss.
I had the opportunity to experience the complete range ahead of the launch with a wash and blowout service by Matrix ambassador and celebrity stylist Takisha Sturdivent-Drew. The results speak for themselves, but before I jump into my Matrix Food For Soft review, below see a breakdown of each product in the line that was created to promote supreme softness.
Matrix Food For Soft Hydrating Shampoo
The Hydrating Shampoo is the first step in the Food for Soft range and sets the tone for the products to follow. It moisturizes while cleansing and removing excess oil without stripping the necessary moisture hair needs.
Matrix Food For Soft Detangling Conditioner
The Detangling Hydrating Conditioner replenishes dry and brittle hair with ultimate hydration. Simply work product through strands in the shower with a wide-tooth comb to get out any stubborn knots.
Matrix Food For Soft Rich Hydrating Treatment Mask
The Rich Hydrating Treatment Mask hydrates even the driest and most porous hair, making it ideal for every wash. Just apply three pumps for three minutes to hair—you’ll be left with the most hydrated hair for three days after when used with the rest of the system.
Matrix Food For Soft Multi-Use Hair Oil Serum
The Multi-Use Hair Oil Serum is a leave-in treatment that helps to seal in hydration for hair that looks shiny and smooth. The formula offers heat protection up to 450° F and is housed dropper bottle for precise application.
My Matrix Food for Soft Review
At the Matrix Food For Soft launch event, I was educated on the line before taking it for a spin. I learned the collection provides seven times more moisture for up to 72 hours thanks to its key ingredient duo: hyaluronic acid and avocado oil. Hyaluronic acid is known for attracting moisture and absorbing 1000x its weight in water. Avocado oil not only deeply hydrates strands but it locks in moisture, sealing the hair shaft with a hydrophobic layer that prevents moisture loss.
I got started with a wash using the Hydrating Shampoo and Detangling Conditioner. Similarly to how I’ve started washing my own hair at home—the Matrix team concentrated on my roots with the shampoo and my lengths with the conditioner. This is the ideal method of application for my super fine strands. After these were rinsed out with the cool water, then the Rich Hydrating Treatment Mask was applied mostly to my ends. This is where I really noticed the difference since I came in with straw-like split ends. Just a few minutes later and never felt so soft!
Next, it was off to Sturdivent-Drew’s styling chair so I could see the effects on my dry, styled hair. Immediately she applied the Multi-Use Hair Oil Serum with its heat protection benefits and started with a rough blow dry. Once she took my hair from drenched to slightly damp, she started applying products from Matrix lineup of stylers. The Setter Mousse and Styling Fixer Hairspray did wonders to add volume and touchable hold. A faux bang and curls were the finishing touches on my tousled hairdo’, but the real test of the Matric Food For Soft Collection was how silky my hair felt when I ran my fingers through my hair all the way down to the ends. Usually, when I finger comb my hair, even after a five-star service like the one I received with Matrix, my fingers will get stuck at my brittle ends. This wasn’t the case at all and my hair stayed silky soft through the day and days that followed.
I’ve since been using the collection since and look forward to each wash day knowing I’m treating my hair to something good that actually works. Not to mention, the spring-like aroma that fills up the bathroom is a treat in itself. Matrix Food For Soft collection is the ultimate form of self-care for hair lovers also concerned about hair health. Best believe I’ll be keeping up this regimen that focuses on hydration to see the long-term effects on my lengths.
