Editor's Pick: Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame Leave-In Cream

Redken frizz dimiss products next to woman with frizz-free hair

Nothing upends a good hair day faster than frizz. One second you have a silky blowout so reflective it could basically be mistaken for a mirror, and the next your hair has expanded with the ferocity of a hot air balloon. Not ideal—particularly if you’re trying to look polished at work and on the weekends.

As as someone with dark brown hair and natural waves, humidity is my sworn nemesis. Living in New York City means at least two seasons that are fully defined by 80 percent humidity days and steam rising from the streets. What’s a girl to do?

There’s a hot new formula on the block that’s finally changing what humidity means for my hair: Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame Leave-In Cream, which I received as a gift from the brand. Keep reading to learn how I finally got my mane to chill out and lie flat in even the most humid weather—believe me, you’ll want to invest in this multitasking product pick.

Why Use Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame Leave-In Cream

When I shop for new hair products, my priorities are an enjoyable application experience—after all, hair care is a ritual like meditation or makeup—and foolproof results. Redken’s Frizz Dismiss system starts with a sodium chloride- and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner duo that’s formulated to provide enhanced smoothness and shine. It’s often apparent that frizz-targeted shampoo isn’t enough to keep my hair in line, so I appreciate that there’s a third step to the system that sounds like it could also be the name of a motorcycle bar: Rebel Tame Leave-In Cream.

I’m a busy girl, so having a product that does multiple things at once is a priority for me. Rebel Tame a multi-benefit smoothing cream for all hair types that hydrates, detangles, and provides the ultimate frizz control while also protecting hair up to 450 degrees, which means I can go straight from towel-drying my hair to my blowout without any added products. Rebel Tame is also approved for air-drying hair, which I haven’t tried yet but can’t wait to get started on come 80-degree summer mornings.

How To Use Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame Leave-In Cream

A normal good-hair routine usually involves a nice in-shower shampoo and conditioning session, some kind of heat protectant or styler to towel-dried hair, and an at-home blowout—that is, unless you’re fighting frizz. In that case, it’s all a frantic race to the last step: dousing your new blowout in oil or hairspray in an attempt to wrangle your unruly, ever-expanding hair.

I made the switch to Redken’s Frizz Dismiss system several weeks ago, trading my no-poo for the line’s shampoo and conditioner, both of which have a beachy smell that makes me excited for summer. After a thorough lather and rinse, I step out of the shower and gently pat my hair dry with a towel—I’ve heard enough horror stories about breakage to treat my hair like really expensive dry-clean-only fabric.

This is where my new go-to comes in: I apply a dime-size amount of Rebel Tame Leave-In Cream to my mid-back-length hair. Distribution is key here, so I’m careful to work in sections to ensure my hair is coated. While my hair isn’t usually prone to snarls, I like the way it leaves my hair totally free of knots so my round brush won’t snag while I’m drying my hair.

After applying, I rough dry my hair 80 percent of the way (thanks, blowout tutorial) before I begin working with a round brush to add bounce and volume to my mane. Thanks to Frizz Dismiss, I’m left with shiny, manageable hair that lasts all day—the kind that makes you shake your head a lot just to enjoy how sleek your mane is. If I see any flyaways popping up, I’ll finish my look with Frizz Dismiss Instant Deflate Oil-In-Serum to keep me looking sleek.
