From deep conditioning masks to in-salon treatments, we’re not ashamed to admit that we’d try just about anything to have healthier hair. So, when we heard the key to having healthier-looking hair starts with having a healthier scalp, we immediately began to look for ways to incorporate scalp care into our current hair care routines.

After spending countless nights researching the needs of our scalp we realized that you can’t just put any old product on your head—you need products formulated specifically to help your scalp thrive. Luckily, Biolage has gone ahead and done the hard work for us by creating a fool-proof three-step hair care routine dedicated to scalp health.

We had the chance to sit down with Madeline McClellan, a manager on the Biolage US marketing team, to get the scoop on everything you need to know about Biolage’s scalp care range. Whether you have dark brown hair or ash blonde locks, as soon as you find out what these products can do for your scalp you’re going to want to get your hands on them ASAP.

Start with a pre-poo scalp oil.

Many issues can plague your scalp, but one of the most common is a dry, flaky skin. While there are plenty of products on the market formulated to get rid of flakes, many of them can leave your scalp and strands feeling parched. Biolage has come up with the perfect solution to this problem: Biolage R.A.W. Scalp Rebalance Oil. Formulated with cedarwood, peppermint, lemongrass, and fennel oils the oil helps to stimulate microcirculation and balance moisture levels at the scalp.

“We learned through testing that cedarwood and lemongrass are antioxidants, meaning they help to prevent oxidation of sebum on the scalp—which can worsen scalp issues—while peppermint provides a soothing experience,” McClellan explains.

The Scalp Rebalance Oil is meant to be applied before you wash and condition your mane, providing soothing benefits prior to the first step of your styling routine. The best part? The oil is great for every head of hair, whether or not you’re dealing with a dry, itchy scalp.

“Massaging the scalp with Rebalance Scalp Oil is the ideal first step to a healthy hair care regimen,” McClellan says. “It balances moisture levels, stimulates micro-circulation, and with regular use, hair is visibly more beautiful overall. Clients with moisture imbalance or experiencing dry scalp will benefit the most, however, all clients can benefit from increased micro-circulation on the scalp.”

Follow with an anti-dandruff shampoo.

If you’re dealing with a dry, itchy scalp chances are good you’ve got a flake or two. The Biolage R.A.W. Salicylic Acid Antidandruff Shampoo is formulated with 2.9% active salicylic acid (the highest concentration of actives authorized by the FDA) and willow bark to help exfoliate flaky scalps and help prevent recurring dandruff.

“Salicylic acid dissolves the protein that bonds cells together,” McClellan explains. “Once individualized and detached from the scalp, flakes are easier to eliminate.”

Even if you’re fortunate enough not to deal with dandruff, you may still want to add the R.A.W. Salicylic Acid Anti Dandruff Shampoo to your hair care arsenal.

“All products within the Biolage R.A.W. Scalp Care range are suitable for all scalp types...Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp,” McClellan says. “The Biolage R.A.W. Antidandruff Shampoo deeply purifies to effectively treat dandruff but also cleanse the scalp and prevent any future concerns.”

Finish with a soothing conditioner.

When it comes to scalp care, oils and shampoo get a lot of the praise. But their work would be all for nothing without the help of a killer conditioner. While many hair care professionals advise keeping conditioner away from your scalp, the Biolage R.A.W. Rebalance Conditioner is formulated with scalp-soothing rosemary and willow bark.

The rosemary is antioxidant and anti-inflammatory while the willow bark helps resist bacteria. They work together to create a conditioner that helps to balance scalp moisture, leaving hair soft and manageable.
