15 Reasons We Love Our Stylists On Hairstylist Appreciation Day

In honor of National Hairstylist Appreciation Day, the Hair.com team reflects on 15 reasons why we love our stylists and why they’re low-key our best friends.

For so many women, there’s nothing like waking up on a Saturday morning, sitting in your stylist’s chair, and leaving the salon with a fresh cut, color, and blowout that leaves you ready to take on the weekend. Our stylists are our therapists, self-esteem boosters, and friends—and even when salons were closed during the pandemic, many still found ways to give clients the expert tips and tricks they needed to keep their manes thriving at home.

From keeping our salon blonde looking fresh to giving the best advice on all things hair and beyond, the Hair.com team reflects on why we love our stylists on Hairstylist Appreciation Day.

What is Hairstylist Appreciation Day?

In short, it’s a day when we show our favorite hair pros a few extra tokens of love. Our hair is a big part of our identity, and National Hairstylist Appreciation Day is an opportunity to showcase just how thankful we are for their passion and commitment to our happiness. While we’re always grateful for the magic our stylists work on our tresses, we may often forget the long hours, weekends, and time they sacrifice away from their families. Not to mention the extended hours spent on their feet and the dedication it takes to continue honing their skills through additional school or training.

How Do You Appreciate Your Stylist?

There’s no right or wrong way to wish your stylist a Happy Hairstylist Appreciation Day. How far you’re willing to go all depends on your relationship with your stylist and what you’re comfortable with. Some of our favorite ways to show our gratitude on Hairstylist Appreciation Day is by sneaking in an extra tip, sending a virtual payment or gift card for coffee, and tagging our stylists in Instagram posts that showcase some of their best work.

Another way you can join in on the festivities on National Hairstylist Appreciation Day is to give your stylist free creative reign over your hair, letting them cut, color, or style you any way they see fit! After all, they’re masterminds of their craft, and they often know what looks good on us better than we do.

Jelani Addams Rosa, Senior Editor

“Because dealing with hair loss is stressful enough, and it’s amazing to have someone as dedicated to the health of my hair as I am. She knows my hair better than I do.”

Jackie Burns Brisman, Assistant Vice President, Content

“Because, on top of making sure my hair looks great (despite graying, postpartum hair loss, and ALL the damage I do to it with hot tools every single day), she’s also a young mom and gives me the BEST advice without any judgment. She also knows that even when I say I want a bob, I don’t, and for that, I am forever grateful.”

Savannah Maroney, Senior Content Producer

“Because when I say things like ‘I want my blonde tone to be not too warm and not too cool,’ she knows exactly what I'm talking about.”

“Because every time I show up to an overdue appointment with split ends, she doesn’t make me feel bad or scold me to give up hot tools. I leave with healthier-looking hair than ever!”

10 Reasons Why Your Hairstylist Is Secretly Your BFF

  • They see you at your worst, like after a night out or a grueling gym session.

  • They never judge you for showing up with greasy hair.

  • They’ve been there to share the ups and downs of your every breakup and make up.

  • They’re a treasure trove of knowledge on topics that fall outside of your social circle.

  • They offer an objective perspective on any drama in your life, whether it’s with family, friends, or colleagues.

  • They always make you feel good about yourself after your time with them ends.

  • They help you find your identity through every cut, color, and style iteration.

  • They give you tough love and tell it like it is. (Remember that phase when you were adamant that platinum blonde would flatter your skin tone?)

  • They just want what’s best for you–and your hair.

  • They forgive you when you’ve made a mistake. Because the amount of times we’re still apologizing for boxed dye and pandemic bangs are infinite.
