Here’s a little fact about me: I’m not the biggest beach bum in the world. My skin is super fair, and I don’t love to spend hours basking in the sun (unless I have my beach umbrella and a good book). I am, however, always looking for ways to recreate those textured, just-left-the-ocean waves at home. While my natural waves already look somewhat beachy, I’ve spent a long time trying to find the perfect products and methods to enhance my beach wave vibes—even on my worst hair days.
If you too, want gorgeous beachy hair without leaving the house, you’re in luck! I’m breaking down the texturizing sprays and styling methods you need to know about to get beach hair at home.

Sleep-In French Braid
Overnight French braids have been a tried and true beach waves method for years, and we’re still completely obsessed! Starting with clean, damp hair, apply an anti-frizz serum like Matrix Total Results Mega Sleek Anti-Frizz Serum throughout your mane. Then, split your hair into two even sections and craft a French braid on each side of your head. Secure each braid with a hair elastic before heading to bed. In the morning, unravel your braids to reveal your beachy texture!

Air-Dried
Fact: If you want just-stepped-off-the-sand level texture, air drying is the way to do it. When your hair is still damp, apply a leave-in conditioner like Matrix Total Results Miracle Creator Leave-In Conditioner throughout your mane. Then, let your hair completely dry before finishing your look with a texturizing spray.

Crimper
If you still have a crimper in your forgotten bag of beauty tools, you’re in luck! You can use this blast from the past styling tool to create beach waves in minutes. Because you’ll be using heat, prep your mane with a heat protectant like Kérastase L'incroyable Blowdry Hair Lotion. This product provides frizz control and heat protection up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
Starting with a 2-inch section of hair, get as close to your root as possible and clamp the base of the section with your crimper. Hold it there for 10 seconds. Then, repeat this step with the remaining hair until the entire section is crimped. Repeat this process until you’ve styled your entire mane. Complete your look with a few spritzes of texturizing spray.

Flat Iron
Begin by coating your strands with a heat protectant and detangling to get rid of any knots. Pro tip: if you have hair that struggles to hold a style, apply a few spritzes of texturizing spray or hairspray to each section before you begin to give it extra hold. Take a 2-inch section of hair and clamp your flat iron at the base of the section.
Twist your flat iron towards the back of your head and slowly pull it down the length of the hair until you reach your ends. Repeat this step with all of your hair, switching between twisting the iron away from your face and towards your face. Once you’ve finished styling all of your hair, tousle your hair gently to loosen the waves. Complete your look with a few spritzes of texturizing spray.

Curling Iron
Want effortless-looking beach waves in 15 minutes? Grab your curling iron and a heat protectant. Begin by applying the heat protectant throughout your mane. Grab 2-inch sections of hair at a time and curl them with a large barrel curling iron. While larger barrels typically create bigger, bouncy, curls, tousle your mane and apply texturizing spray at the very end to give your hair a loose, beachy effect.

Buns
Buns are another fool-proof way to style beach waves overnight. First, depending on the thickness of your mane or how tight you want your waves to be, you’ll need to determine how many buns you want to create. If you have fine hair, split your hair into two even sections, wrap each section into a bun at the top of your head, and secure them with hair elastics. For thicker strands, split your hair into four sections and repeat these steps. Use a few bobby pins to keep your buns from falling out throughout the night.
Catch some Zs, wake up in the morning, and release your strands from the buns. Tousle your mane and apply a few spritzes of texturizing spray to complete your look.
