When we heard of the inversion method, we thought it was too good to be true. If this was the secret to long, strong locks, why didn’t everyone have down-to-there hair? To get to the bottom of our most burning question, we sat down with Dr. Kari, licensed trichologist, celebrity stylist, and owner of Mahogany Hair Revolution salon in Los Angeles. Continue reading to find out everything you need to know about the inversion method.
What is the inversion method? The inversion method is a process in which you hold your head upside down in the hopes of increasing or improving blood circulation to the scalp to promote hair growth.
Hair growth is a result of a healthy supply of nutrient-rich blood to hair cells to promote hair growth...People believe if you hold your head upside down, the blood will rush to the scalp and this will help the blood circulate to hair follicles and improve hair growth.
Does the inversion method work?Despite anecdotal evidence and unbelievable, seemingly unedited before-and-after pictures, there is no scientific evidence to prove that the inversion method works.
Your hair grows in a series of phases: the anagen or growth phase, the catagen or resting stage, and the telogen or shedding stage. The only way to make your hair grow faster would be to lengthen your growing phase somehow and there’s no evidence to prove the inversion method does that. All hanging upside down is proven to do is give you a killer headache!
What can help hair grow faster?
The inversion method may not work, but that doesn’t mean all hope is lost. If you’re hoping to grow longer, stronger hair, there are a ton of things you can do to switch up your hair care routine and lifestyle. The first—and most important thing—you should do is make sure you’re nourishing and taking care of your body.
“Hair is the barometer of health, so if you want healthier hair growth you should have a healthy supply of nutrients that you are absorbing through food or supplements on a regular basis,” Dr. Kari says. “If you would like to increase the blood circulation in the scalp...this can be achieved with regular scalp massages.”
