Kérastase Initialiste Scalp Serum Transformed My Dry Winter Hair

If your scalp is still dry from the cold winter months, you’re come to the right place. Read on to find out how Kérastase Initialiste Advanced Hair And Scalp Serum transformed one editor’s dry mane.

As someone with very fine hair, I am generally hesitant to add extra products to my basic shampoo and conditioning routine. Even a little too much of the wrong product has been known to take my hair from gorgeous and bouncy to greasy and limp in an instant. But living in a cold, dry climate means that my hair and scalp are crying out for some major TLC by the time December or January rolls around. That combined with getting my hair colored regularly, left me searching for a hydrating, smoothing, yet still lightweight product. This is exactly why the idea of trying a scalp and hair serum piqued my curiosity. And though I was still a little skeptical if it would work on my hair type, it turned out that Kérastase Initialiste Advanced Hair and Scalp Serum was exactly the thing my fine, dry, color-treated hair needed.

With ingredients like amino acids and wheat protein, Initialiste is formulated to provide moisture, strength, and smoothness to every strand. But if you’re still wondering what, exactly, a hair or scalp serum is in the first place, you’re probably not alone. Keep reading for my Kérastase Initialiste Review and all the other Kerastase Initialiste questions you might have.

What Does Kérastase Initialiste Do?

The best way to understand what Kérastase Initialiste does is to think about your skincare routine. A face serum is typically the product used after cleansing and toning to add a layer of super hydrating, fortifying ingredients to your skin. This serum provides the same effect for your hair and scalp.

While shampoo and conditioner do a great job of cleaning and moisturizing your hair, it’s still easy for your scalp and hair to be stripped of moisture—especially if you live in a cold environment. Adding heat styling and professional color into the mix can also cause breakage, and dryness. Kérastase Initialiste uses key ingredients like amino acids, plant cells, and a strengthening gluco peptide to create stronger and smoother hair with every use.

Who Is Kérastase Initialiste Good For?

When I started writing my Kérastase Initialiste review, my first thought was to recommend this product to everyone with thin, fine hair like mine. Finally, I thought, a moisturizing, strengthening product that doesn’t weigh the hair down. But the truth is that this product is great for anyone whose hair is prone to breakage, dryness, or fly-aways—no matter the texture or thickness. If you have thicker hair, simply use four drops instead of two, as the brand instructs. Trust me, though, no matter what kind of hair you have, you will definitely be tempted to use even more than that as the product’s scent is just that good.

Pro Tip: One drop is equivalent to one full dropper. It took me a little while to realize this from just reading the instructions on the bottle.

How I Use Kérastase Initialiste In My Hair Routine

As someone with fine hair, I was very conservative with how many drops of the serum I used when I first added the product to my routine. Still, it made my hair smell so good that I eventually experimented with using three or four drops instead of one to two. The good news is that I noticed positive effects in my hair even with just one to two drops of the product, and when I started using more, it didn’t weigh down my hair, either. Within seven to 10 days, I started to notice smoother, shinier, bouncier hair. Now, I work anywhere from two to four drops of the product into my hair and scalp after towel-drying my freshly washed hair.

Though I instantly noticed a shinier, healthier appearance to my hair, the real difference for me was how much better my hair felt after using Kérastase Initialiste. For the first time in a long time, it felt good to run my fingers through my hair, and I didn’t feel like my hair was constantly breaking whenever I styled it. That alone (plus, did I mention how good it smells?) made this product worth it for me.
