The 15 Prettiest Long Hairstyles To Try In 2024

photos of women with long hairstyles to try

With popular trends like glass hair and textured lobs going on, it seems like short cuts have completely stolen the spotlight. If you’re not quite ready to part with your length just yet, however, don’t worry. We have our eye on the trendiest long hairstyles for 2019.

Whether you have dark brown hair or ash blonde, you’re going to want to remember these styles for the new year.

Low Ponytail

Use a boar bristle brush to remove any knots from your hair. Pull all of your hair to the nape of your neck and secure it with a clear hair elastic. If you want to amp up your low ponytail a bit, swap out your hair elastic for a scrunchie. Complete your look with a few spritzes of hairspray like the Matrix Total Results High Amplify Flexible Hold Hairspray.

Half-Up Fishtail Braid

No hairstyle reminds us of carefree beach days quite like a fishtail braid. This half-up fishtail braid should definitely be on your list of summer looks.

Half-Up Knot

Section off the top half of your hair and pull it towards the back of your head. Use a clear hair elastic to tie the section into a ponytail. Coil the hair from your ponytail around the base of the elastic to create a knot and wrap a velvet scrunchie around it. Complete the look with hairspray.

Braided Fishtail Bun

Pull all of your hair to one side of your head and begin creating a fishtail braid. Divide the hair into two even sections and separate a half-inch piece of hair from the outside of the left section. Take the half-inch piece of hair and cross it over to the right section. Then, grab another half-inch piece of hair from the outside of the right section and cross it over to the left. Repeat these steps, alternating sections, until you reach your ends. Secure the braid with a clear hair elastic.

Pancake your braid and wrap it to create a low bun at the nape of your neck. Use bobby pins to hold the bun in place and lock it in with hairspray.

Brushed-Out Waves

We recommend starting with second-day hair for this look. If you’re concerned that your second-day strands are beginning to look oily, use a few spritzes of dry shampoo. The Shu Uemura Art Of Hair Color Lustre Dry Cleaner Dry Shampoo gently cleanses by absorbing oils and impurities at the roots while moisturizing dry lengths and ends.

Spray a heat protectant like the Matrix Biolage Styling Thermal Active Spray throughout your hair. Using a flat iron, take one 2-inch section of hair at a time and begin to form waves. Clamp the base of each segment, twist the flat iron away from your face, and slowly pass the flat iron down the segment until you reach your ends.

Once your hair is completely wavy, gently run a brush through your hair to loosen the waves. Complete the look with a few spritzes of hairspray.

Dutch Pigtails

Begin with detangled hair and part your mane down the middle to create two even sections. Working with one section at a time, create three even segments of hair—left, middle, and right.

Cross the section farthest to the right under the middle, then do the same with the section farthest to the left. Continue repeating these steps, adding more hair each time you cross a section, until you reach your ends. Use a clear hair elastic to hold the braid in place. Repeat these steps with the remaining section.

French Braid

We never get tired of seeing a traditional French braid on our social media feeds. Be sure to give the classic look a try in 2019.

Sleek Middle Part

A sleek middle part is sophisticated, timeless, and looks stunning for just about any occasion. If you’re thinking about recreating the look, you’re going to want to ensure that your strands are as frizz-free as possible. We love the Biolage Smoothproof Serum, since frizzy hair needs special treatment to control flyaways. It’s designed to hydrate and heal even the most brittle and frizzy strands to create a sleek, shiny, healthy hair look.

Half-Up Pompadour

A modern pompadour is nothing like the poofs you remember from back in middle school. The voluminous look is a runway staple and one of the easiest hairstyles we’re obsessed with for 2019.

Textured Waves

When you have the right styling products, achieving the perfect textured waves is a breeze. We recommend picking up a texturizing spray like the L'Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Next Day Hair.

Accessorized Space Buns

A new year brings a fresh set of festivals and concerts with it. We predict space buns will still be one of the most popular hairstyles to impress at any musical event.

Slicked Down Front

We got the inside scoop that polished hairstyles will be everywhere in 2019—and sleek, textured waves are one of our favorite polished looks. Before you begin any sleek hairstyle, we recommend applying the Kérastase Elixir Ultime L’Huile Original Hair Oil through damp hair.

Embellished Half Crown Braid

Crown braids never seem to go out of style. With a new year right around the corner, however, you might be looking to try something different with your crown braid. We love the look of a half-up crown braid with floral accents.

Sleek Half Updo

Swapping your regular hair elastic for bobby pins can instantly take your half updo to the next level.

Carousel Braid Ponytail

For 2019, we’re all about trying new things. While traditional Dutch and fishtail braids will always hold a special place in our hearts, we’re loving this carousel braid ponytail. The braid-wrapped pony is just the hairstyle you need to stand out in the new year.
