After years of bleaching my hair and dealing with dryness, frizziness, and damage, I’ve been on a mission to get my hair’s health back—and keep it that way. When it comes to styling techniques and products, I typically avoid heat when possible and look for nourishment. I have loose waves naturally, so I crave a product that can help play up that texture while keeping frizz at bay. Sea salt sprays are usually the option on the table but don’t provide me the hydration my hair needs, so what is a better alternative to sea salt spray?
My latest styling go-to is Redken’s Beach Spray, a beach spray for hair that doesn’t include salt, helping to achieve the beach waves of my dreams without drying out my strands. Since I tend to stay away from standard beach sprays due to the salt content, when I was gifted this product, I knew it might be the answer to covetable waves. I hadn’t tried a beach spray option that didn’t include salt as a main ingredient, so I wanted to see how well it worked and share my opinion with anyone else on the hunt for a non-drying styling spray.
Below, I detail everything you need to know about Redken’s Beach Spray, as well as my personal Redken review.
What is Redken Beach Spray?
Redken’s Beach Spray is a sea salt-free, medium-control spray to help achieve beachy, textured waves. The lightweight spray adds body and movement to the hair, allowing for a tousled, matte look. Using a combination of copolymers that work together to achieve all-day body in the hair, each polymer contributes differently to add texture, volume, body, and curl.
How do you use beach spray?
How to do beach waves without heat?
One of the benefits of Redken Beach Spray is that it allows you to achieve touchable, beachy waves without needing to use any heat tools. If you’re opting to skip the diffuser, this product allows you to spritz on damp hair and air-dry.
My Redken Beach Spray Review
Taming my waves day to day without heat has been a challenge that I’ve been continuously tweaking and improving for years. Curls can dry too limp or in every direction if you’re not careful, so I’m constantly looking for products to not only add texture and style but also keep from frizzing up or drying out my hair. I had stopped using beach sprays long ago due to the salt content and didn’t even realize that a salt-free spray existed until I tried Redken Beach Spray.
For my hair wash routine, I rinse with a shampoo and conditioner as usual and towel-dry my hair so that it isn’t dripping wet for application. Then, I simply spritz the beach spray evenly around my hair, flip my head upside down, and used the scrunch method (similar to the curly girl method) to form waves. I personally find that this way helps me to separate my curls and achieve the most body. I typically air-dry my strands to avoid heat, but I’ve found that I actually like the body and waves that the beach spray creates with my hair after diffusing even more. This is most likely due to my loose 2B waves, as I’m able to achieve more body and a more defined wave when it’s diffused.
My hair goal is always a loose, effortless wave, and when I can achieve that without doing any additional damage to my hair, it’s a win-win. The Redken Beach Spray has become a staple in my routine as I know it will give me reliable, beachy waves without the beach! I can’t wait for a quick hair routine and long-lasting waves this summer, thanks to this spray.
