Remember the days of fawning over every blonde celebrity to hit the red carpet? Well, while we still adore our salon blondes, it’s officially brunettes time to shine! If you needed any more proof that 2020 is the year of the brunette, take a look at some of our favorite hair colors at this year’s Golden Globe Awards. Some of our favorite celebrities walked the red carpet for the 77th annual awards ceremony with brunette shades ranging from dark and dimensional to golden.
Looking to find out more about some of your favorite red carpet hair colors? We got the inside scoop from a few of our favorite Redken artists, who created three of the hottest brunette hair colors of the night.
Zoey Deutch’s Reddish Brown By Redken Celebrity Colorist Tracey Cunningham
From ginger beer to auburn, we were obsessed with reddish brown hues in 2019. After Zoey Deutch stepped onto the Golden Globes red carpet with a reddish brown hue, created by Redken celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham, it’s safe to say the trend is still going strong in 2020.
“We refreshed Zoey’s red and added in some subtle highlights for the evening. I love to use Redken Shades EQ Gloss in the salon to create vibrant and dimensional reds,” Cunningham says. “The gloss is amazing because it feels like a conditioner that adds color to the hair and gives it lots of shine.”
Rachel Bilson’s Soft Brunette By Redken Brand Ambassador Cassondra Kaeding
Looking to take a break from ashy tones in 2020? Go golden! If you need a bit of golden brown inspiration to bring to the salon, look no further than Cassondra Kaeding’s golden brown creation on Rachel Bilson.
“Rachel wanted to step away from being an ashy blonde so we created a soft brunette color with some subtle golden highlights and a dimensional, beachy vibe,” Kaeding says. “Glossing with Redken Shades EQ Gloss is my favorite way to help my clients achieve their ideal color and give their hair gorgeous shine and luster that’s perfect for the red carpet.”
Eliza Gonzalez’s Neutral Brunette By Redken Brand Ambassador Matt Rez
If you’re torn between cool and warm tones, don’t worry! Eliza Gonzalez’s neutral brunette, created by none other than Redken brand ambassador Matt Rez, incorporates a beautiful mix of warm and cool pops.
“I always say that tonal balance is so important when it comes to hair color,” Rez explains. “This means having different color elements weaved throughout the hair including: A neutral color, via your base, warmth via a midlight and warm or cool highlights in the silhouette. No skin tone or color is monochromatic and your hair shouldn’t be either!”
The secret to this gorgeous dimensional brunette? Rez’s signature midlight technique. Want to learn more about Midlights? Check out our full guide.
