Hailey Baldwin’s Red Carpet Look Just Made Pink Hair Happen All Over Again

Pink is still happening, people—particularly on the heads of the world-famous. On the red carpet May 8, model and influencer Hailey Baldwin stepped out with a head of fresh grapefruit color. The star had previously worn a bright blonde shade.

It isn’t just any shade of pink that topped off Baldwin’s ethereal gray gown and heels, however. This one was custom created for Baldwin by Ryan Pearl, the rockstar of hair color who calls Cutler SoHo home.

For many women, pink hair color is an investment and a statement. Pearl played with that idea, using Baldwin’s fruity hue the way a stylist might choose a colorful shoe or bag for the red carpet.

“Both Hailey and I wanted to make a statement with her color...I like to think of hair color as an accessory—it can add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral look,” Pearl says.

Instead of a vibrant, punchy fuschia, Baldwin’s pink leaned cool. Pearl even left a light brown root visible, as if he fully intends to make waiting even longer between touch-ups a fashion statement.

“I used a combination of Redken Shades EQ Gloss and Redken City Beats for this new hue,” he says, citing the season as inspiration for the new look. “Pink hair is perfect for spring, and it’s incredibly flattering to all skin tones.”

Baldwin has a long history with blonde hair, a shadowed root with sunny highlights that makes her look like the ultimate California surfer girl. In the past, she’s proven herself more likely to play with texture and cuts (think beachy waves and blunt bangs) than color.

However, it’s that same dedication to blonde that enabled Pearl to take Baldwin pink so quickly. He preserved her dark roots, using the pre-lightened strands as a base for the pastel rose shade.

Once you have such a gorgeous color, there’s no need to overwhelm it with a lot of styling. Baldwin’s stylist angled for soft, damp-looking waves, a jeweled headband, and delicate fresh flowers. If you’re comfortable wearing bold color to a formal event, this style is definitely wedding or prom friendly.

If you’re pining for Baldwin’s dramatic glam, you can stop panicking right now. Pearl provided us with the exact formula he used on his muse’s mane. Just snap a screenshot and bring the list to your stylist at your next color appointment.
