I live in New York City, where I’m dealing with hard water. In the months since my review of the shampoo and conditioner, my friends have stopped asking me what I’m doing to my hair because I’ve waxed poetically about the benefits. When the brand launched the oil, they sent me a sample to work into my Metal Detox regimen and test its unique powers for myself. I’ve dabbled with hair oils over the years but never stuck with anything consistently. The biggest (and most pleasant) surprise for me was how quickly the oil was absorbed into my post-blowout hair. When I styled soft waves in my hair, I noticed they were a little bouncier—and felt more nourished.

I’ve spent the last year-ish transitioning my hair from highlighted bright blonde back towards it’s natural light brown shade. While there is a bit of color left at the ends, my stylist has been using a gloss the neurtralize it, making the different shade barely noticeable. So while I am not running to the salon for regular color like I used to, it’s important to call out how color-friendly the Metal Detox Shampoo and Hair Mask duo are for those who color their hair.
When the samples of the Metal Detox Shampoo and Hair Mask arrived, I committed to using them for two weeks, figuring I would have to up my anti-frizz game during my trial. Well, it’s been six weeks and I can honestly say I am never looking back.
I use a quarter-size dollop of the shampoo once every two or three days and I love how it instantly lathers into a rich foam. After shampooing my hair, I give it a good, worry-free rinse because I know the creamy cleanser will continue to detoxify my hair from the hard water. Then, I gently squeeze out the excess water from the ends of my long hair.
When I have time for a mask, I scoop out a small amount of the mask and use the rich texture to coat my hair from mid-shaft downwards, concentrating on my extra-dry ends. Three to five minutes later, I like to use a cool rinse to wash out the mask. I won’t lie: I have become mildly obsessed with how smooth my hair is immediately after rinsing out the mask.
I recently started incorporating the oil and find even with my thick and long hair, two pumps is enough to give my mid-shaft and ends powerful frizz protection and a boost of just-from-the-salon shine. At the advice of the brand, I warm the oil in my hands before applying it, which I find helps give me an even distribution. I mainly incorporated this into my routine after a blowout, but I love that it offers heat protection for towel-dried hair, too.
Before the shampoo and conditioning mask entered my routine, I would use seven to 10 spritzes of a lightweight defrizzing oil on my damp hair before brushing out the tangles. Now, my hair only needs three to four spritzes of this innovative oil.
Overall, my hair, like my mood on wash day, is light and bouncy. And that friend who used bottled water to wash her hair? I already ordered her a set of this trio.
