Pureology’s Color Fanatic Top Coat Is Glass Hair in a Bottle

One editor shared how this simple at-home treatment from Pureology made a big impact on her lackluster locks.

Whether you color your hair or don’t, shinier locks are something that, for the most part, we all covet. I’m personally always on the hunt for any product that will give my hair glass-like shine, without weighing down my fine strands. I’ve taken a hiatus from coloring, but I love that Pureology’s Color Fanatic Top Coat range can be used on natural or dyed locks.

I jumped on the opportunity to try the product in the salon when I heard about the launch and was even gifted the product to incorporate into my at-home hair care routine. Promising results in just five minutes, it felt like my hopes for high-gloss hair were finally within arms reach—literally.

Keep scrolling to read my Pureology review on how I use this top coat and if it transformed my hair into the silky, reflective strands of my dreams.

How Do You Use Pureology Color Fanatic Top Coat?

Use Pureology Color Fanatic Top Coat after shampooing. Remove excess water from hair, and then with the help of the precision nozzle, apply product from roots to ends making sure to spread evenly. Let sit for five minutes and rinse. It’s that simple!

Top Coat is infused with oat milk and camellia oil—known for their conditioning properties—to soften and lock in shine, making it optional to follow up with conditioner or mask.

Before

My Pureology Color Fanatic Top Coat Review

I’ve seen what Pureology’s range of products has done for my super fine hair—case in point: the brand’s Hydrate Shampoo—so I had high hopes for this top coat and its ability to give my hair weightless shine. Although this product is made to be used at home, trying it out for the first time in the salon elevated the whole experience.

The stylist and I chose sheer clear to use on my naturally brunette hair. Like the package instructs, she spread it all over my hair after shampooing. She skipped any conditioner since, even wet, we could feel the product already working its magic and deeply hydrating my strands. Five minutes later, she rinsed it out.

Once blow-dried, I first noticed that I had a lot less frizz than I normally would. Actually, my frizz was almost non-existent. This eliminated piling on other frizz-fighting products, which I’ve been known to do. The only other product used was the Color Fanatic Multi-tasking Leave-in Spray. My hair was truly the softest and shiniest it’s ever been.

Now, Top Coat has become a staple in my hair care regimen, and it's been a breeze to use at home. I only wish it came in a larger, more economical-sized bottle to use on my growing locks so I can save myself from future trips to the store. I use it as a bi-weekly treatment to keep my hair from looking dull. I can also see how color-treated hair could benefit from this treatment in between salon appointments.

Bonus: If you’re like me, the shower is a spa-like experience, then the formula’s blend of rose, floral ginger, and cedarwood scents is for you. All in all, Pureology Color Fanatic Top Coat is a frizzy, fine hair girl’s quick fix to mega-shine and softness.
