Guido Palau’s Best Hairstyles From NYFW 2025

Woman with 70's inspired ponytail at NYFW

The Look: 70’s-Inspired Ponytail At Longchamp

From French bobs to nude hair color, we can never seem to get enough of Parisian-inspired hair. That’s why when Palau created a ‘70s-inspired ponytail with a nod to classic French women for Longchamp’s Fall/Winter 2020 Show, we paid extra close attention.

“We were very inspired by French movies when creating this look,” Palau says. “There’s an effortlessness to it, with a modern twist. I prepped the low ponytail by creating a small center part in the front to enhance the head shape while keeping the hairline soft around the ears.”

Get The Look:

Begin by washing and conditioning your hair with Redken’s Extreme Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner. Then, apply a quarter-sized amount of Redken Extreme Play Safe Heat Protection and Damage Repair Hair Treatment from mid-lengths to ends. Use a round brush and a blow dryer to smooth the hair. Once your strands are fully dry, use your fingers to create a center part.

If needed, apply a few spritzes of Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo to your roots to add a bit of volume. Gather your strands at the nape of your neck and secure them with a hair elastic to create a low ponytail. Use your fingers to soften the hair around your ears and allow your baby hairs to peek through.

Use a 2-inch curling iron to create waves throughout your ponytail. Once cooled, use your fingers to soften the waves.

The Look: Rockstar Faux Bob At R13

At R13’s Fall/Winter 2020 Show, Palau switched things up from sleek, sophisticated looks in favor of effortless, rockstar-inspired texture.

“I wanted to do a different take on a rocker, piece-y look this season at R13 by creating a type of ‘faux bob’ on the models with longer hair...I achieved this by looping the hair up at the crown and pinning it to hide some of the length,” Guido explains. “Then, I spritzed Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texturizing Spray throughout the lengths and ends to give a piece-y vibe.”

Get The Look:

Prep the hair by washing and conditioning with Redken Frizz Dismiss Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner. Towel dry your hair and apply a quarter-sized amount of Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame Leave-In Hair Treatment to your lengths and ends for added definition. Begin blow-drying your mane, scrunching your mid-lengths to ends throughout to enhance your natural texture.

When your hair is fully dry, begin taking 1-inch sections of hair and slightly loop them at the crown area above your ear to visually shorten your ends into a long faux bob. Use a bobby pin to secure each section as you go.

Once all of your hair is lifted and secure, take a bandana and place it around your head. Complete your look with a few spritzes of Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texturizing Spray.

The Look: Victorian Twist At Tory Burch

If you’re looking for a runway style with a bit of a romantic vibe, you’re going to love Palau’s half-up Victorian twist from Tory Burch’s Fall/Winter 2020 show.

“The hair at Tory Burch this season is a little ‘70s and a little Victorian. I’m using Redken Extreme Play Safe when blow-drying to heat protect and fortify the hair,” Palau says. “My key product at this show is the new Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo to absorb excess oil and product to revitalize the hair… I also love using it to give a touch of volume at the root.”

Get The Look:

Prep the hair with Redken’s Extreme Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner. Then, apply a quarter-sized amount of Redken Extreme Play Safe Heat Protection And Damage Repair Hair Treatment throughout your strands. Blow-dry your hair with a round brush to smooth it out. Once your strands are thoroughly dried, use your fingers to create a center part.

Apply a few spritzes of Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo, focusing on your roots and the strands framing your face. This will help give the hair a bit of touchable volume. Gather a 1-inch section of hair on each side of your hairline. Bring each section to the back of your head and secure them loosely together with a hair elastic to create a half-up look.

Twist the secured pieces over themselves to create a rolled effect. Use a 2-inch curling iron to create waves throughout your hair and use your fingers to soften them.

Woman with low ponytail at NYFW 2020

The Look: Luxe Low Ponytail At Carolina Herrera

Palau’s sleek low ponytail at Carolina Herrera’s Fall/Winter 2020 Show proves runway hairstyles don’t need to be complicated to make an impact.

“We’re here at the Carolina Herrera show where I’ve done a clean, modern, rich ponytail. My key product at this show is the newly-repackaged Redken Detox Hair Cleansing Cream Clarifying Shampoo, which helps to cleanse the hair of excess product and build-up without stripping it,” Palau explains. “The result is perfectly-prepped, luxurious-feeling hair that lends itself effortlessly to a simple, but luxe, look.”

Get The Look:

Prep hair with Redken Detox Hair Cleansing Cream Clarifying Shampoo. Apply a quarter-sized amount of Redken Extreme Play Safe Heat Protection And Damage Repair Hair Treatment from mid-lengths to ends. Then, blow-dry your hair with a round brush to smooth your strands.

Use a fine-toothed comb to create a clean center part. Brush your hair with a boar bristle brush to detangle and smooth your mane and gather all of your strands at the nape of your neck, leaving your ears covered. Pick up a hair elastic to tie your hair into a low ponytail loosely. Apply a few spritzes of Redken Triple Pure 32 Neutral Fragrance Hairspray throughout your hair to tame flyaways and lock in your look.

Woman with wet look at NYFW 2020

The Look: ‘90s-Inspired Wet Look At Proenza Schouler

We never get tired of seeing a classic wet look on the runway, and Palau delivered at this year’s Proenza Schouler’s Fall/Winter 2020 show.

“We were inspired by strong, sexy, tough women in the 90s. I’m starting by blow-drying the hair with Redken Guts 10 for volume at the root to help obtain the square-ish, masculine shape...Then, I’m layering in Redken Hardwear Gel 16 throughout the lengths and ends with additional layers of Redken Guts 10 for the wet look, leaving the comb marks at the front,” Palau says.

Get The Look:

Beginning with clean hair, prep your strands by working a palm-sized amount of Redken Guts 10 Root-Volumizing Spray throughout the crown of your head. Blow dry hair using a round brush for added volume. Once hair is fully dry, take a handful of Redken Hardwear Gel 16 and start working it in sections of your hair at the crown using a wide-toothed comb, intentionally leaving the marks and squaring off the shape for a masculine effect.

Continue working the gel down your lengths and ends. Once your first layer is done, apply another dime-sized amount of Redken Guts 10 Root-Volumizing Spray throughout your lengths and ends. Continue layering both products until you’ve reached your desired effect.

Use a clip to secure your hair on each side of your head above your ear and allow it to set. Once the hair has completely set, remove the clips. Apply a few spritzes of Redken Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist Hairspray throughout the whole look for a glossy effect. Complete your look with a few spritzes of Redken Triple Pure 32 Neutral Fragrance Hairspray for added hold.

Woman with beanie and long hair at NYFW 2020

The Look: Grungy Texture At Coach

Following a string of decade-inspired hair trends at this year’s New York Fashion Week, Palau’s work at Coach’s Fall/Winter presentation dove deep into the street style inspired by classic films from the ‘80s.

“We’re here at the Coach show where we’ve done a few looks—some of the models have gotten haircuts, some are wearing hats, some have fake bangs, and some have their hair down,” Palau says.

Every look was a bit different, but one key addition to many of the model’s hairstyles stood out—faux fringe.

“Fake bangs are a great way to play with a new style without the full commitment,” Palau says.

Get The Look:

Start with clean, dry hair and create a center part using your fingers. Apply a few spritzes of Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo to your roots to give your hair touchable volume. If desired, add a clip-in fringe to give your look a fun twist.

If needed, use a one to two-inch curling iron to create waves throughout your hair. Once your hair cools, run your fingers through it to soften the waves. Finish your look with a few spritzes of Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texturizing Spray.
