It’s Pride Month, and as we celebrate another year of progress, inclusion, and acceptance, Hair.com wants to acknowledge that Pride is about more than rainbow-colored hair for a huge part of the salon community. There are so many stylists in the LGBTQ community that have made their mark on the industry, and in turn, the industry has had a profound effect on their own personal journeys.
We spoke to Ron Lopez, Al Alexander, Erica Moomey, Brandon Curtis, Jonathan Terech, Sebastian Langman-Kirtley, Jamal Edmonds, and Carlo Novoa—all LGBTQ stylists from different parts of the country. Some dreamed of being hairdressers from a young age, while others discovered their passion later in life. Each stylist talks about struggling to fit in, coming out, their journey in the hair industry, and how the salon community embraced them with open arms.
